Audrey & Jim's daughter Tami has sent the following information:

As you are all aware of by now my mom passed away Tuesday morning. She went peacefully in her sleep. Thank you to everyone who has sent their well wishes and had a chance to visit her.

The family has made arrangements for a memorial service at the end of the month. Pete Kinney has been kind enough to help us through this difficult time by offering his spiritual support and with be the officiate for the service. It would mean a great deal to our family if you could join us in celebrating her life. As you know mom was not a fancy person so we would like to make this a casual service and suggest you leave your Sunday's Best hanging in the closet :-)

Sincerely,
Tami

ATTENTION ALL RACERS

As everybody knows, no association is self supporting. It is with the generous help and donations of sponsors and racers themselves that allow us to continue as an association.

This year is no exception. We are still in need of race sponsors and trophy sponsors to fulfill the needs of So Cal Super Street. Again, I ask all of you as in the past to address this problem, by forwarding any information you may have of potential sponsors that may be in a position to assist So Cal Super Street, and to promote their product or business.

Any driver or group of drivers that wish to sponsor a race as a group or individual may do so as well, there are many options. If you would like more information or have a suggestion, please contact us.

Dalluge, Sapone open
2009 Super Street Series with victories

By Bob Johnson           Auto Club Dragway                  Fontana, Calif.              January 17-18, 2009

Virgil Dalluge and John Sapone opened the 2009 Southern California Super Street Assoc., point’s series with victories at Auto Club Dragway in Fontana, Calif.  Dalluge drove his ’72 Plymouth Duster to a final round win over ’08 SoCal Pro Gas champion Pete Bothe in the first race of the weekend, while Sapone defeated Dave Drew in the Sunday afternoon final round.

Race one of the series was sponsored by Tim & Donna Daniel and Jim & Mary Ketcher.  Randy Shaw was the top qualifier, followed by Bob Johnson and Randy Guitar.  Dalluge went to the final by defeating Johnny Parrino, Tim Daniel, and Ron Freedle before matching up with Mike Scarpelli’s Nova in the semi.  In that race, Dalluge got the win light with a 10.920 as Scarpelli lost with a too quick 10.856.  Bothe got to the final by stopping Guitar, and Dave Drew before getting a bye in the third round.  In the semi, Bothe beat Steve Parsons.

Dalluge cut a .003 in the final round and logged the series first win of the season with a 10.946 to Bothe’s losing 10.951 effort.

Sunday’s race was sponsored by Scarpelli Racing, and saw Steve Parsons qualify number one with former series champ Mike Lang second and Tim Daniel third.

Quarterfinal action began with Dave Drew beating Pete Bothe in a double-breakout, Mike Conway stopped Tim Daniel, and Sapone defeated Parsons.  Reigning champ Matt Blodgett got a bye.

In the semi, Drew had a .015 advantage at the starting line and took the win light with a 10.899 to Blodgett’s 10.887, while Sapone ran a perfect 10.900 (.035 reaction time) as Conway ran a 10.906 with a .041reaction.  In the final, Sapone used a .003 light with his ’64 El Camino and ran 10.892 at 126.36 mph as Drew’s Nova was too quick with a 10.888 after a .040 light.  Sapone credits Continental Converters, RaceTrans.com, his wife Jennifer, crew chief Ron Combs and Debra Lovato for their support.

The third and fourth races on the 8-race schedule are set for June 6 & 7 at Auto Club Dragway.

 Wow! What a good day!

They say when it is your day, its your day, and even though it was a long time coming Saturday was my day. Good weather, good competition, and a good track only made the win that much more enjoyable. Special thanks to the race sponsors, The Daniels and The Ketchers. To Donna Scarpelli for her hard work, oh yeh and you too Mike. To Bob and Cindy Richmond for the help and patience and my wife, Chauvon.

Thank You

Virgil    SST 7807

Congratulations to our runner up - Pete Bothe, Race #1, January 17, 2009

First I would like to congratulate Virgil on his win. Thanks to Tim & Donna Daniel and Jim & Mary Ketcher for sponsoring the race!

Thanks also to So.Cal. SST association for sponsoring the runner up trophy and the great crew at the race track. My two best friends Gary and Nancy Mignacca, couldn’t do it without them.

Thanks to Mike and Donna Scarpelli for a great job running Super Street. It’s been two years since I have run with the group and it was a lot of fun. A special thanks to my personal sponsors:

Hughes Performance

Dick Munns company

Vellios Machine Shop

Thanks and race safe,

Petey

Congratulations to our winner John Sapone, Race #2, January 18, 2009

After only having one qualifying session on Saturday and then losing in the
first round, my hopes for Sunday being a better day was on my mind.
Little did I know that Sunday would bring its own set of challenges on
that day.

Sunday started with the tailgate of my truck not opening, that should
have told me it was going to be a crazy day.  With sprits high, we made
it past 1st round; Gary Mignacca is as tough as they come and that was
evident with his near perfect light (-.001).  I always tell people, So.
Cal Super Street racers are a great bunch to race with.  Jim Israel all
day had allowed me to get wind readings from his trailer.  Who would
have thought we were going to be paired in round 2.  I know I told you
at the track Jim, but thanks again.

I would have to say that going into round three truly tested me and my
crew.  You know, I love the lady that hands our time slips to us.  She
is always friendly and upbeat.  As she handed me my slip she said "here
ya go, now Safety wanted me to tell you that it looked like your light
bar may be loose, have a good day!"  All that raced through my mind was
Whaaaaaaaaaat?  Back in the pit, I grabbed the generator and went to pull
the cord……you guessed it, a spring broke inside that prevented the
generator from starting.  If that wasn't enough, my wife tells me that our
laptop just shut off due to low battery and can't get it to charge.

So let’s recap, loose light bar, dead generator, no laptop.  Oh ya,
and the announcer saying "So
Cal Super Street winners return to the
lanes".  I want to thank Fischle Racing for letting me plug into his trailer
to charge my car for the rest of the race and the Scarpelli's for trying to
help with the laptop problem.  Thankfully the light bar was a quick
fix.

I would have to say that round three through the final was some of the
best drag racing I got to experience in a long time.  Steve, Mike, Dave,
you are great competitors.  Mike, 10.900 to a 10.906…. WOW……you made it
a true drag race.

David, congrats on another final round appearance, based on my run with
you, this will not be your last.

I want to thank my crew that day, my wife Jennifer, Crew Chief Ron, Debbie and Jimmy “G”.   You really stepped up to take the pressure off of me.  Big hugs and kisses to my daughter Ashley, thanks so much for your help on the fuel system.  All that hard work paid off Hotrod!

To my sponsor, RaceTrans.com, thank you for a great transmission!  Your
product helped produce consistent 60 foot and 1000 foot times, thanks
again Jimmy.

I would also like to thank Don Higgins from Crew Chief Pro.  Your
software made it possible for me to run the dial-in.  Further, the
knowledge we gathered from your product helped us even after we had a
computer problem.  Special thanks to Reher Morrison Racing Engines and
Kris and Peter at Continental Converters.

Last, but not least, Mike and Donna Scarpelli, thanks for sponsoring
the race and keeping this association running smooth.  Yours and the
sponsors continued support is much appreciated.

See all you in June!

The Pothole Express

Congratulations to our runner up- Dave Drew, Race #2, January 18, 2009

Another season has started right where we left off, it’s an accomplishment to win a round.  I truly believe So Cal Supper Street has the best group of accomplished competitors anywhere.  My congratulations to John Saponi and his crew for an excellent final round package and the win.

I had a great weekend and it was because of my wife Gloria and all our friend’s with their support, a special thanks to you.  Thanks to race sponsor Scarpelli Racing - Mike, Donna & David and trophy sponsor So Cal Super Street.

David Drew
