Matt Blodgett captured the 2008 Southern California Super Street Assoc., championship title when he won his third event of the year at Auto Club Dragway, defeating Darren Parsons in the final round.  Blodgett won three of the 8-races contested this season, and ended the year with a 331-point advantage over second place Tim Daniel.  Brenden Herem won the final Super Street race of the season, as he won for the first time this year, defeating Daniel in the final.  The season-ending specialty race-the Super Street Shootout-was won by Tim Rash, as he defeated Parsons in that final.

Blodgett opened the quarterfinals of the seventh event of the season with a win over red lighting Jim Israel before getting a bye into the final.  Parsons had a single in the quarters with his ’67 Camaro, and beat Jeff George in the semi, 10.92 to a 10.91.  Parsons had a .010 better reaction time in the final, but he gave the stripe to Blodgett as he put the family Vega in the winner’s circle for the third time of the year with a 10.93 to 10.98.  Blodgett thanks BP Carson Refinery, SCI, Isky, Hughes Performance and Goodyear for their sponsorship.

Herem won his first race of the year driving his dad’s ’02 Camaro, logging a .003 victory over shootout winner Rash in the first round, he beat Saturday’s runner-up Parsons in the second round, and got a bye in round three.  In the semi he used a .015 light to advance to the final against Ron Freedle.  Tim Daniel went to his second final of the year by beating Dave Gotts in the first round, and Gus Barks Jr., in round two.  After getting a perfect light, Daniel took a .013 win over Mike Scarpelli to open the quarterfinals, and he got a bye in the semi.

The Canyon Racing-entry of Herem got to the winner’s circle with a final round 11.000, 141.82 (.010 reaction) as Daniel’s Beretta lost with a 10.979, 130.19 (.033 reaction).

Blodgett earned the 2008 series championship with 3254 points, followed by Daniel with 2923, Mike Lang had 2758, Bob Richmond logged 2647, and Scott Evans was fifth with 2630.

John Castro finished fourth in the 07 Super Street series standings, and his win at the sixth event of the ’08 campaign moved him solidly into the top ten with two races remaining on the schedule.

Matt Blodgett went into the event as the winner of two of the previous four races and a solid lead in the standings.  Blodgett suffered a second round win on Saturday, and on Sunday eventual winner Castro took out the Vega driver in the first round as Blodgett broke-out.  Castro continued in eliminations with a perfect-light win over David Drew, he beat Jim Ketcher in the third round and got a bye into the final.

Castro had a .071 second advantage over Barks Corvette in the final, and held on for the win with a 10.888, 133.57 to Barks second best of 10.816, 124.25.  K&N Filters sponsored the race.
